Choosing an online mastering service.

Most services sound similar in a marketing demo. These are the questions that separate them for a home engineer.

What to ask any service

Can you hear it before you pay? A full A/B against your own mix, not a sample clip.

Can you see what was done? Named stages and a score, or a black box.

What does it cost over a year? Per-track or subscription, and what you lose if you stop paying.

Where do the loudness numbers come from? A published standard, or a preset. We explain ours on the methodology page.

Is a person available? Some releases deserve a human engineer. Ours is on the engineer page.
